toqua arrowmen -

again i'm late is sending this message. please reply, anyhow - even if it's
after the meeting tonight.

the fall (isn't it still summer?) ordeal starts tomorrow. the lodge
information letters given out at call-out stated that both ordeals would be at camp
buck toms. this was changed during the winter, with the fall ordeal to be at
camp pellissippi. there has been a recent effort to tell candidates to come
to camp pellissippi - they are the only ones who received the letters, and
they would not have received any new information since they are not members
and are not on any mailing list. i have called all of the toqua candidates or
their unit leaders with the good information. tell everybody you see - it
ain't too late till it's too late, to paraphrase yogi berra.

here's some information contained in messages from mr. tribble dated 7/5/08
and 7/18/08, and probably subject to change. don't shoot the messenger - me,
in this case.

registration will be at the sawmill shelter near the ranger's house.
candidate cars will be parked there, and candidates will walk into camp with their
elangomats. member cars will be parked above the stone lodge. car-pool as
you are able - parking is scarce. staff camping will be in the campsite above
the lodge. there will be two ceremonies teams (echota and toqua) for both
pre-ordeal and ordeal. the toqua pre-ordeal site is possibly the trail's end
campsite, with the ordeal site being in the field behind the dining hall on
the ridge. [there will be lots of work needed on both of these sites.
members - be available Friday evening and early on Saturday morning to help with
this. (i can't imagine how to get a hole in the ground to support a torch at
the trail's end site - be thinking about this)]. candidates and staff should
all bring tents. bring water. clan work will be on clean-up of perimeter
trail, water breaks on trail to circle, blaze perimeter trail, camp-site
cleanup, facility cleanup, trail benches (?), etc. tools needed: bow saws,
loppers, mattocks, rakes, shovels, string trimmers (adults), etc.

this ordeal at camp pellissippi will present unique problems, primarily in
facilities, but none that are insurmountable. we will make our final plans
tonight. let's all approach it with a positive attitude. keep in mind
induction principle #4 - member's compliance: all members participating in the
induction must respect and comply with the tests of the ordeal, to the extent
allowed by their responsibilities, and induction principle # 7 - generosity:
the attitude of members toward the candidate must be one of acceptance,
respect, understanding, sincerity, friendly encouragement, support and trust.

-w-w-w-
