toqua arrowmen -

i will soon leave for summer camp staff for 7 weeks. a few things i want to
mention:

(1) the latest "ordeal headcount" shows 90 candidates registered, of which
34 are from toqua. there are 57 staff registered, of which only 5 (five) are
elangomats. there is no information in the headcount as to how many of
these 5 are from toqua. let me add my plea to that of the head elangomat, joseph
dirmeyer - please, please, please sign up to do the most important job in
the ordeal, maybe in the order of the arrow altogether. this job, though
irksome to some degree, is within the your capability, and is the most satisfying,
gratifying thing you can do at the ordeal. don't be a flap-wearer at this
event - be an elangomat!

(2) chapter programs sometimes go into the doldrums in the summer time,
just when they need to be pepped up because of the new members that have been
inducted. several of the older youth in the chapter are on summer camp staff
and will be unable to participate to any degree in the chapter program, but
this cannot be used as an excuse to let the chapter suffer. there are many of
you who are still available back home to carry on this important work. go to
meetings, pay particular attention to the new members, have some serious
training for them (they were given a handbook - introduce them to it), have some
good times with them and with each other. we had 76 candidates called out
after the unit elections. probably the best of them will be those who come to
summer activities - so be ready for them.

(3) the o. a. year will be over in a few more weeks. thanks to those of
you who have done excellent work in the chapter and lodge, but many of you have
been little more than spectators. everyone - be giving serious thought to
what you can do to make toqua, the biggest chapter in the lodge, the
super-chapter it ought to be and which it falls far short of. a llittle bit of effort
by everyone can total up to tremendous results. don't compare us to other
chapters - seek the vision of yourself and of your purpose that can lead you
and the chapter to what it, and you, can and ought to be.

we had a good meeting last night, and it will be the last for me for a
couple of months. i leave you with the irksome tasks and weighty
responsibilities, and also with the joys, of keeping the chapter fire burning at home.
