Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster Asst. Leader Specific |
|
|
The BSA national training plan for Scoutmasters and Assistants includes: (1) New Leader
Essentials, (2) Leader Specific Training, and (3) Outdoor Leader Skills. A leader must
complete these courses to be considered \"Trained\" and to participate in Wood Badge Training.
Leader Specific Training
This course is tailored for adults who have recently accepted the responsibility of delivering the Scouting
program to youth by serving as Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters and members of the Troop Committee.
The sessions in this training course are thorough, comprehensive, and fun. Discussions, group activities, and
video clips will keep the sessions lively and create an atmosphere of learning. Sessions include:
Session 1 - Getting Started: The Role of the Scoutmaster in a Boy-led Troop
Session 2 - Lighting the Fire: The Outdoor Program and the Advancement Program
Session 3 - Keeping it Going: Program Planning and Troop Administration |

Outdoor Leader Skills Training - Boy Scout Leaders |
|
|
Outdoor Leader Skills is a hands-on program that gives adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to
lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. The course provides experience in setting up a campsite, pitching a tent, hiking,
outdoor cooking, first aid, map and compass, tree and plant identification, flag ceremonies, ropes, planning
interfaith worship, and much more.
The course is taught entirely outdoors while on an overnight camping event. Participants will experience the patrol method as envisioned by Lord Baden-Powell. Hands-on participation makes the best learning tool, so participants should leave the training experience knowing they can show their Scouts how to accomplish
outdoor skills while fulfilling rank requirements. |
